June 29, 2018 – Teenager Struck And Killed In Queens Car Crash
A 17-year-old girl was killed while walking in a Queens crosswalk in front of P.S. 209 on Monday, June 25, around 10:30 am. The car that struck her was driven by an 88-year-old woman. The teen was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver is facing charges including failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
May 30, 2018 – Young Cab Passenger Killed In Queens Crash
A 19-year-old female was a passenger of a livery cab in Queens on Thursday, May 24. The cab was hit at Archer Avenue and Jamaica by a Mercedes that ran a red light or a stop sign at 11 pm. The passenger was taken to the hospital where she passed away shortly after her arrival. The driver of the cab sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at an area hospital. The driver of the Mercedes faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident.
April 30, 2018 – 9-Year-Old Boy Dies In Queens Hit-And-Run
On April 28, an elderly driver hit a 9-year-old boy who was crossing the street with his mother around 1:30 pm. Both the boy and his mother were hit and had the right of way, but the 2008 Jeep plowed over the boy and sped off. A cab driver witnessed the accident and followed the 86-year-old driver 10 blocks where he was arrested. The man said he didn’t flee the accident because he did not know he had hit anyone. The boy was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center with head and body trauma where he passed away. The driver of the vehicle was arraigned and is being held on a $20,000 bond.
March 7, 2018 – Young Girl Injured By Falling Piece Of Wood In Queens
On Friday, February 23, an 8-year-old girl was walking with her family in Queens when a large piece of wood fell from an apartment building fire escape and struck her in the head. The girl suffered a wound to the head that required three staples to close and a mild concussion. Witnesses stated that at least one of the construction workers fled the scene and the police have deemed the incident an accident. The Department of Buildings has issued a full stop work order, cited the contractor, and issued three violations. The Department of Buildings is still investigating the incident.
February 20, 2018 – Car Crash Into Queens Supermarket Kills Driver
On Saturday, February 17, a 21-year-old-man was driving a BMW in Forest Hill on Union Turnpike. The driver lost control of his vehicle, veering off the road at around 12:45 am. The car went through a Stop and Shop parking lot where it crashed into the loading dock of the supermarket and burst into flames. The driver was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where, sadly, he passed away.
January 29, 2018 – Two Pedestrians Injured In Two Separate School Bus Accidents In NYC
Two pedestrians were injured after being struck by school buses in two separate accidents which occurred just minutes apart in Queens and Harlem on the morning of Tuesday, January 24.
In the first accident, a 56-year-old woman was struck and run over by a school bus in Harlem. She was briefly trapped under the vehicle as well. Medics rushed her to Harlem Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
In the second accident, an 11-year-old boy was struck by a bus as he was crossing Sutphin Blvd. near Liberty Ave in Jamaica, Queens. The driver was arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
December 27, 2017 – Worker Injured When Two MTA Trains Collide
An MTA worker suffered minor injuries when two work trains collided in a tunnel under the East River on Wednesday, December 27. The tunnel connects Manhattan and Queens.
The injured worker was brought up to a subway station where he was placed in an ambulance.The accident occurred around 5 a.m. when a moving train bumped into a stationary one. The two trains collided inside the 53rd Street Tunnel on the Manhattan side. The E and M lines had been undergoing repairs throughout the week.
There were no passengers on either train. The accident is currently being investigated.
November 3, 2017 – 8 Children Injured When Tree Limb Falls On School Bus
Eight children and three adults suffered minor injuries when a tree crushed a school bus in Queens on Monday, October 30. The accident occurred at around 8 a.m. at Woodhaven Boulevard and 66th Road.
Video footage from the scene showed that the right side of the bus and the windshield were totally smashed and that the door was barely attached. The children were evacuated through the emergency exit in the back.
The accident happened during a severe storm, with 40 mph wind gusts being reported at La Guardia Airport at around the same time.
October 25, 2017 – 5 People Injured In Car Accident Involving Police In Queens
Multiple people were injured in an auto accident involving police on the Belt Parkway in Queens on Friday, October 20th. The crash happened around 11:34 a.m. near Exit 22 on the westbound lanes of the Belt Parkway.
Three people were treated for serious injuries and listed in stable condition. Two others suffered minor injuries in the accident. All five injured people were brought to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
June 2, 2017- 17 Children Hospitalized After Queens School Bus Accident
17 school children were sent to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital for the treatment of minor injuries after a school bus collided with a commercial box truck in Jamaica, Queens. The accident occurred around 11 AM on Friday, May 26 at the intersection of Rockaway and Brookville boulevards. The children’s injuries were relatively minor, and neither driver was injured in the crash. Both drivers have cooperated with police and no arrests have been made, but the details of the crash are still being investigated.
May 21, 2017- Baby Attacked By Pit Bull In Queens
A one-year-old girl needed surgery after she was bitten in the face by a pit bull. According to authorities, the girl was at home with her babysitter in Jackson Heights when the attack happened. The babysitter’s two teenage sons were apparently watching a friend’s pit bull in the backyard of the home that day. The accident took place when the babysitter went to the backyard to feed the dog. When she opened the door, the dog ran in with a bone in its mouth. The baby girl is said to have tried to take the bone from the dog’s mouth and the dog lunged forward and bit her in the face. She was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition.
April 13, 2017- Surgeon Facing Five Medical Malpractice And Negligence Lawsuits
A surgeon is facing five malpractice lawsuits and one negligence lawsuit after being accused of forging prescriptions. The 63-year-old orthopedic surgeon further faces a number of felony charges of identity theft and obtaining controlled substances by fraudulent or deceitful methods. The lawsuits also allege that the doctor fabricated evidence which he used to support unnecessary, dangerous and painful procedures. He is also accused of not responding appropriately to patients’ post-surgery infections among other claims.
March 3, 2017- Astoria Man Dies After Being Struck By Driver In Carle Place
A 34-year-old man from Astoria was struck and killed by a car as he was stepping out of his office in Carle Place. The victim was identified and he worked in an eye-surgery center nearby. The driver of the car was in shock after the accident happened and it was reported that she did not see the man as he was stepping out. The corner where the accident took place is believed to be a busy intersection. It has not been stated whether or not police have charged the driver.
February 24, 2017- Freak Accident Kills Doorman Shovelling Snow
A 59-year-old doorman died following a freak accident at an Upper East Side building. The doorman was shoveling snow at the steps of the building when he slipped and tumbled down the stairs and ended up slitting his throat as his head crashed through a window. It was reported that the doorman lost his footing as he was clearing the stairs leading from the sidewalk to the basement lobby entrance. The impact of the accident shattered the left window pane which resulted in a pool of blood being left at the bottom of the steps.Sadly, the doorman was planning to retire soon.
January 13, 2017- Queens Dangerous Intersection Leads To Another Pedestrian Accident
A 65-year-old man died after a motorist crashed into him on a street in Queens. The accident took place at an intersection that is part of a priority corridor for Vision Zero. The 65-year-old pedestrian was hit as he crossed Main St. in Flushing. The driver stayed on the scene of the accident and was not charged immediately. The victim died as a result of the head trauma he suffered. Records show that the area where the accident took place has had seven people injured there between 2013 and 2016.
December 22, 2016- Grand Central Parkway Accident Leaves One Dead
Police are investigating a fatal crash that took place in Queens at the intersection of Grand Central Parkway and Union Turnpike. The car involved in the accident caught fire and was killed. The passenger in the car was thrown out and he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
June 30, 2016 – Deadly Hit-and-run Auto Accident In Queens
A recent auto accident in Queens involving left one pedestrian dead and three others injured. According to reports, the car accident happened around 6:30 p.m. at Junction Boulevard near the Long Island Expressway in Queens, NY. Police say that a vehicle was heading westbound on the Horace Harding Expressway when the driver lost control of the vehicle, crashing into the sidewalk and then two other vehicles, hitting several pedestrians in the process.
