Livery Cab Passenger Killed In Drunk Driving Accident In Queens
A passenger in a Lyft vehicle was killed when an alleged drunk driver heading the wrong way crashed into the Lyft vehicle on the Belt Parkway in Queens. The accident happened shortly after 2 a.m. on Thursday, July 12. According to police, a silver Volkswagen was driving east in the westbound lanes when it crashed into a Honda Accord being used as a Lyft vehicle near Bay 8th Street in Queens. The 27-year-old back seat passenger was killed. The Volkswagen driver has been charged with driving while intoxicated, three counts of vehicular assault, and vehicular manslaughter.
4 People Injured When Dump Truck Overturns On Long Island Expressway
Four people were injured after a dump truck overturned on the Long Island Expressway in Queens on Tuesday, June 19. The accident happened at Kissena Boulevard shortly before noon, when the vehicle jackknifed and tipped over onto a median. Traffic was backed up for several miles for much of the morning. The four injured victims were brought to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Toddler Struck and Killed By SUV In Brooklyn
Neighbors in a Brooklyn community are calling for justice after a four-year-old girl was fatally struck by an SUV on a sidewalk in Bushwick on Tuesday, June 26. The girl and her mother were walking outside of a laundromat when the girl lost her shoe. The two bend over to retrieve it, when a 2018 Nissan Rogue SUV pulls out of a parking lot, strikes the girl, and keeps driving without stopping.
No charges have been filed, but neighbors are demanded that the driver is held responsible.
The NYC Department of Buildings has launched an investigation into the parking lot where the vehicle came from to determine if there are any building or zoning violations.
Construction Company Pleas Guilty In Fatal Construction Accident Case
On Friday, July 13, a New York City construction company pled guilty in a case involving a worker who fell 29 stories to his death in the Financial District. The company pled guilty to manslaughter and agreed to pay over $800,000 in restitution to victims of wage theft and to the state for insurance fraud schemes. The court found that equipment involved in the fatal accident was in violation of city regulations.
