Jogger Struck & Killed By Driver In Queens

On Thursday, August 10th, a 36-year-old man was killed while jogging in the Far Rockaway section of Queens. The man was struck by a car when he entered a crosswalk lane and pronounced dead at the scene. The 32-year old driver who struck the man has been taken into custody. Police say charges are pending.

Pedestrian Killed In Forest Hills Accident

In Forest Hills, a 29-year-old man was killed after being struck by a car while running across the street. He was found unconscious and bleeding and was brought to two different hospitals before passing away from his injuries. The 66-year-old driver remained at the scene until authorities arrived and has not been charged with any crime.

Amputee Sues MTA For Subway Accident

A Brazilian student who lost her arm and leg after being struck by a Brooklyn subway train has filed a negligence lawsuit against the MTA. 21-year-old Luisa Harger claims that a lack of barriers and other subway platform safety structures directly lead to her injuries, after she fainted on a platform while waiting for a train.

According to a report by the New York Post, about 50 people per year are fatally struck by New York City subway trains. In the past 15 years, there have been over 1,000 catastrophic injuries in subway accidents.

Subway safety has become a big news story this summer, as New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced plans to institute a tax on the wealthy to fix these dangerous problems.
